Frequently Asked Questions - Last Updated 5/1/08
Q. How do I get set up with a username and password as the Webmaster for my site?
A: Your Department or Chapter Commander or Adjutant must first complete the website application form (located at http://www.survey.dav.org) and designate you as the webmaster for your Department or Chapter website. Then you need to contact DAV National HQ to have your login credentials established.
Q. Is there a user manual for the webmasters on how to maintain the site?
A. Yes, the Webmaster User Manual is a PDF document located at: http://www.davmembersportal.org on the left side of the page under the heading "Documents".
Q. Does the DAV want Departments and Chapters to migrate to DAV's web portal, and discontinue the use of independent domains?
A. You are welcome to keep your current Department or Chapter websites, if you so desire. We are merely providing a way for all Departments and Chapters to have a website. Since some can’t afford to have one hosted for them, or some do not have anyone with the technical skills to maintain one, we have established sites for all Departments and Chapters with a very user-friendly interface and are hosting them as a free service.
Q. If a Department or Chapter currently has its own domain name and an established search engine presence, and elects/desires to use the DAV web portal, is it ok to use the established domain address with a redirect to the portal home page (thereby maintaining the original URL, but redirecting users to the new site)?
A. Yes, you may choose to have your current domain name redirect to the new site.
Q. What will my new website address be?
A. The Department and Chapter websites are essentially subsites of the domain: davmembersportal.org. The URL's follow a consistent naming convention. That naming convention is:
Depts = http://www.davmembersportal.org/state_abbreviation Example: http://www.davmembersportal.org/ct is the URL for the Department of Connecticut.
Chapts= http://www.davmembersportal.org/chapters/state_abbreviation/chapter_number Example: http://www.davmembersportal.org/chapters/ct/12 is the URL for Connecticut Chapter 12
Q. I am the Adjutant, the Officer to Receive Mail and the Webmaster for my chapter. Do I have to log into and check the email account for each of these, or can I have all of the emails forward to one primary email account?
A. You can set up email preferences to have the email forwarded to the email account of your choice.
Q. I am using AOL and I cannot get logged into my website. What can I do?
A. If you are using AOL's browser, try using Internet Explorer. (Internet Explorer should already be on your computer - look for the blue "e" icon.)
Q. My Chapter Meeting Location is incorrect. When I try to make changes to this web part I can't. Why not?
A. The "Contact Us" information on the home page, the "Officer Listing" on the Officers page and the "Service Office Listing" on the Services page are all custom built web parts. The information on these particular web parts pulls directly from the DAV Membership System, therefore, you can not modify it directly on your website. In order to correct this information, you need to submit an updated Department or Chapter Officer Report so that it can be corrected in the Memebership system. Once updated on the Membership System, the information will display correctly on your website.
Q. Will visitors be able to get to my website from DAV.org?
Q. When trying to modify content on any of the content web parts, I do not see the "Rich Text Button" to use for editing as explained in the Webmaster User Manual. Why not?
A. It is likely that you are using Mozilla Firefox as your browser. Mozilla Firefox will not give you the Rich Text Editing tool, you can only input content in those areas in HTML. If you use Internet Explorer, however, you will be able to see and use the Rich Text Editor feature.
Q. How do I format picture views in my Photo Gallery and add Officer Photos to my Officer Page?
Many of you have asked for assistance on how to change the views on your photo gallery so that the picture thumbnails will display by default. You have also asked how to get your Officer Photos on your Officers page...well, ask and you shall receive! Click here for detailed instructions on these items.

Q. We want a new look to our site. Can we change to one of the other 4 templates?
Yes. We have 4 different templates. If you decide to use another one just email us at webmaster@davfrat.org and we will be happy to change it for you.
Q. I can't make changes to some of the pages, why not?
A. The "Contact Us" information on the home page, the "Officer Listing" on the Officers page and the "Service Office Listing" on the Services page are all custom built web parts.
