DAV Chapter 13 is made up of members from all around the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys and one of the primary activities we help sponsor is the VA Hospital Transportation program. The Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center acts as a hub for the transportation services. There is a fleet of vans and busses, many of them are DAV vans, driven by volunteer DAV drivers that fan out in all directions. Those vans and busses transport veterans to and from their appointments at the VA. They go as far North as Bakersfield, to Lancaster, up the coast as far as Santa Maria, and to the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center.
Chapter 13 has in the past made donations to many other veteran activities, the VA’s Golden Age Games, Blind Veterans Games, Veterans Homes in the State, the Disabled Veterans For Life Memorial in Washington DC, the Women Vets Luncheon, Fisher House in West LA and the Van Replacement Program, and the Sepulveda VA Nursing Home.
In addition emergency funding is made available to meet veterans immediate needs. Funds have also been made available on a limited basis for members to attend DAV’s State and National Conferences in order to bring back and share with the Chapter the latest developments within the DAV.
Our only fund raiser during the year is the annual Forget-Me-Not campaign during Veterans Week in November (7th thru the 13th). We are the folks standing out in front of your favorite store with the little blue Forget-Me-Not’s soliciting funds during that week. This year, because the needs are greater, we have established a goal of $50,000.00 and are augmenting those individuals with a letter writing campaign asking for donations to help us achieve our goal.
