It is important that if you seek emergent care outside the VA, you call within 72 hours to let the VA know in order that those providers may be paid. If you made a visit to the ER call: (228) 436-7494, 7451, or 7485 within 72 hours. If you are admitted to the hospital call (800) 296-8872 (Mon-Fri 0800-1630 CST) ext# 37485, #37451, or #37494- these are the extensions of the transfer coordinators. When you fill out the paperwork at the hospital- make sure that you check YES, for the option to be transferred to a military/VA hospital. If you don't, the VA may decline to pay for the visit. On weekends and holidays for an ER/Admission call the AOD @ (228) 523-5342. To check the status of a claim call (228) 523-4315 or (877) 881-7618.

The numbers for the ER visits and the transfer coordinators are the same, except for the 800# and a "3" before the last 4. Sometimes these numbers work better than using the 228 area code; but not always- it depends on the day.
