Staffed by DAV volunteers, 189 Hospital Service Coordinators, and volunteer drivers, the DAV nationwide transportation network brings sick and disabled veterans to VA medical facilities for treatment. When the federal government discontinued allowances to help veterans pay for transportation, the DAV stepped up.
In 2008, the DAV Charitable Trust spent $ 900,000 on Transportation to Medical Facilities. Volunteers spent millions of hours driving tens of millions of miles in vehicles provided to the VA through purchases by DAV chapters and departments or donated by Ford Motor Company and other corporations and individuals.
