Dear Comrades:
Our new officers are:
Myself as Commander
Steven Holman--Sr. Vice
Jim Liparula--Jr.-Vice
James Barrett--Sec/Treas.
Chaplain--Paul Graves
Sgt. At Arms-- Timothy Day.
Guess what? All of my Officers helped with the Forget-Me-Not Drive this year. Yes, I finally have some officers who are willing to help with our projects. James and his wife and grand daughter were at Wal Mart Kendallville. Timothy, his wife, grandson, and Steven were at Albrights, and Jim Liparula and Paul were at new Market (Lances) in Garrett. Unfortunately, we had bad weather and only took in $342.30. I guess people forget who pays for their freedom.
Also, we have new Auxiliary Officers and we need you ladies to come and support them.
Commander-- Vickie Day
Sr. Vice-- Karen Higgins
Jr. Vice-- Marge Graves
Adjutant--Anna Miller
Treasurer-- Yazmine Goodwin
Chaplain-- Tammy Armstrong
Sgt-At-Arms-- Karen Higgins.
Our next meeting will be May 19th at 7:30 at the Garrett American Legion and I hope to see many of you there to support both Chapter 43 and its Auxiliary.
We have a Garage Sale Scheduled for May 21 and 22 at the home of our Sr. Vice Commanders Steve and Karen, and we are still looking for donated items. You may drop them off at 610 N. Peters St, Garrett, IN. If I am not home please put the items in the trailer in the driveway. The location of the sale will be 4919 Old Fort Wayne Road, Huntington, IN which is just off HIGHWAY 24 North of Huntington on the right side of the Road. We still need items dropped off. THANKS.
We still need some of you to return the money for the scooter tickets. Some of you only participate in this one function every year and we appreciate your participation. It only costs five dollars and the price of a postage stamp. Ironically, I had one veteran drive from Fort Wayne to give the tickets back and tell me
he couldn’t sell them. It is probably the only meeting he will attend this year. I apologize to him for his inconvenience, but that is probably his only contribution of the Year. I do wonder why some people join Veterans Service Organizations. I do not make it to all of the meetings of the five to which I belong, but I do support them throughout the year in various ways. We are the backbone
of this Country, and we better be vigilant or we will succumb to those who want to see us obliterated.
The cost of putting announcements in the local papers is prohibitive, and that is why Vickie put the letter to the editor about the NSO’s being at the Garrett American Legion in April. Unfortunately, there weren’t that many who showed up. What do we need to do to try to help you veterans? We want to have another “Vetsin the park” like we had last year (not many showed up). There were several conflicts last year. Maybe this year we can correct that. We also want another Garage Sale to be held on Labor Day weekend, and we will be at the Fair again this year. Please try to support us in the efforts we make to support you
The National DAV has sent a notice regarding the Health Care and it can be found under the "News" section and it is labeled "DAVLETTER052010" here on the website.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Pickard, Commander
