During the Tornado's of March 2nd 2010, a Veteran by the name of Grady Hammill suffered nearly a total loss of his rental home. Both he & his wife are disabled, and could not afford to buy another or make the move to another due to being disabled.
Members from this Chapter helping with the recovery efforts saw the need, and after speaking with the State Officers of the DAV they came up with a Plan, that being the purchase of a new Mobile Home for the Hammills, which was located in Scottsburg.
On Monday 7 May 2010, with a Ceremony with the Department Officers present, Members from the Aurora Chapter & Dubois County, the Key to the Mobile Home was presented to Mr. Hammill & his wife. Along with the Mayor of Scottsburg and the WAVE 3 News crew.
The purchase price of the Mobile Home amounted to $20,000 and our part was $1000, and the deposits for the Utilities. Thus the purchase amount was from the many Chapters of the Department of INDIANA, Thank you all for the support & concern for this Henryville Veteran.
