 Edward Lee "Ed" Gary

Ed Gary passed from this life on June 7, 2017 at the age of 73. Ed was born in Jennings, LA and loved playing his Cajun music and anything involving rodeo. At the time of his death, Ed was Department Adjutant for the DAV, Department of Louisiana and a Past Department Commander for DAV. He was a member of Louis L. Lust Chapter 17 in Lake Charles. Very dear to Ed was doing what he could to help our veterans. Ed was very involved in working with the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, LA and was DAV Ancillary for them for many years. Another project close to his heart was the creation of a new Veterans’ Cemetery for the Jennings area. Ground was finally broken in November 2018 for this Cemetery and Secretary of Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) Joey Strickland has stated that Ed Gary would be given the honor and distinction of being the first veteran to be interred in the Cemetery. Ed was also a member of VFW and American Legion, holding several offices in both organizations. He was a talented musician and member of the Cajun French Music Association of Lake Charles. Ed entertained everyone at our DAV State Conventions in his role as auctioneer for the Auxiliary Auction, his Cajun jokes a staple of the events. Ed Gary was survived by his wife, two daughters, son, a brother, and eleven grandchildren, and another that was on the way at the time of his passing. Edward Lee “Ed” Gary is greatly missed and remembered with affection by all who knew him.
