Severly wounded British soldiers will now receive double the maximum amount in cash payments, the British Defense Ministry announced in December. The amount is raised from $428,000 to $855,000. Applied retroactively, the grand total of $15 million in lump-sum payments will be divided amoung 2,700 wounded vets.
The most severly injured also are entitled to lifetime monthly payments under the new Armed Forces Compensation Scheme. That could add up to more than $1.5 million over a lifetime.
British troops are serving in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
