As Veteran's Day approaches, it is time for our Chapter's annual fund raising effort--our Forget-Me-Not program.
Please make your most generous donation using the self-addressed envelope provided.
Money we raise with this program is spent exclusively on services for Veterans in Washington State.
What kind of services? Last year we gave $500.00 to each of the five veterans hospitals in Washington State:
- American Lake
We also gave $500 to each of the three state veterans homes:
If we have the money, we grant additional funds when we become aware of a need. For example:
A sound system for the new auditorium at the State Veteran's Home in Retsil, Washington
Two complete Wii Sport, Wii Fit (with balance board) and 32 inch television for the Seattle VA medical Center and the VA American Lake facility (Tacoma) to be used in their physical therapy programs.
These systems have proven to be very useful in the rehabilitation of veterans who have suffered crippling wounds and injuries.
Most of you know and many have used the DAV Van that makes a daily trip to the Seattle Veterans Hospital. Bellingham Chapter 19 bought that van through the DAV National VA Purchase program and it is already approaching 100,000 miles. Soon we will need money to replace this "new" van. So, after you make your Forget-Me-Not donation, if you have a few more bucks to spare, write another check and notate in the Memo line: Van Fund.
When a new van is received, ownership is transferred to the Veterans Administration and it becomes government property. The VA then pays operation costs, fuel, maintenance and insurance. DRIVERS ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS. Everyone in this Chapter is an unpaid volunteer and I (as Treasurer) get a receipt for every penny requested as a reimbursement.
The Chapter has a Web Site at DAV Chapter 19
On 11 November, we plan to have volunteers soliciting funds at the Haggen Stores. If you can help out, please contact Comrade Gene Goldsmith at 384.2484
