Northern Nevada Veterans Writing Project Press Release
Dear Bill,

Computer Writing PicRENO, NEVADA - The Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) and professors from the University of Nevada, Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College, and Western Nevada College are joining together to present the NORTHERN NEVADA VETERANS WRITING PROJECT.

The project, open to veterans and family members, offers fiction and nonfiction instruction in a classroom setting for six weeks. A limited number of veterans wishing to develop stories or sharpen an existing work will find support from instructors and fellow novice writers in this instructional workshop.

"Projects like this, especially when executed with folks like the exceptional veterans and instructors from institutions in the Nevada System of Higher Education, provide an excellent opportunity to veterans to reflect upon, explain, and sometimes even deal with combat and military experiences that they or people they love might have endured," explains Caleb Cage, NOVS Executive Director.  "This is an effort we are very proud to be part of."

Classes will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings, September 29 through November 3, 2011 at the Joe Crowley Student Union on the UNR. The culminating event will be a public reading of the creating works and celebration on Veterans Day at Sundance Books and Music in Reno.

NOVS supports this effort by providing supplies, advertising, administrative support and publication of selected works completed during the project. Together with these great instructors, and resources provided by UNR and their Veterans Services Office, this promises to be an interesting joint venture encouraging veterans to put words to their writing ideas.

There are no fees associated with this project, and potential participants can register on the NOVS website at
www.veterans.nv.gov.  Due to space constraints, enrollment is limited to twenty (20) participants and the deadline to register is September 15, 2011.

Please register on line or for more information please go to www.veterans.nv.gov.
