On December 6, 2016, the House passed a number of veteran-related bills, particularly omnibus legislation, H.R. 6416, which includes modest provisions related to veterans' claims processing, education, employment, entrepreneurship, homelessness, health care and burial benefits. These provisions are contained in the Veterans First Act, S. 2921.
Unfortunately, however, critical legislation addressing several DAV priorities were dropped from the omnibus bill due to cost or partisan disagreements, including provisions to modernize the appeals process, extend caregiver assistance to veterans of all eras and provide equitable access for women veterans to all of their earned benefits and services.
It is important that the Senate vote on H.R. 6416 before they leave at the end of this week, Friday, December 9. Please use the prepared email to contact your Senators to ask for their immediate action on this veterans' legislation.
