Subject: Disaster Relief
Dear DAV Staff and Leaders,
As many of you are aware, the devastation caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have displaced tens of thousands of our fellow Americans. Meanwhile, the toll of Hurricane Maria is just being calculated. Among those affected are our nation’s heroes—the men and women who served our country.
As many of you have experienced firsthand, providing disaster relief to veterans and their families in times of great need is a top priority to our organization. Veterans, service members and their families are often faced with overwhelming loss in the aftermath of such tremendous disasters and it is vital we remain steadfast in fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served. When tragedies like this strike, veterans turn to DAV because they know that’s who we are and what we do.
This is why DAV’s Disaster Relief Program exists. Our disaster response team is working across Texas to locate and offer support to veterans and their families. We are handing out relief supply kits complete with blankets and other basic necessities that are normally easily accessible. Additionally, we’re providing financial assistance so veterans and their families can obtain food, warm clothes and shelter to get through this extremely difficult time.
Many of you are already being asked by our fellow Americans how they can help DAV provide assistance. I ask you all to share the following link through your email and social media channels to help us help those in dire need of assistance in the aftermath of this tragedy: bit.ly/2017HurricaneRelief.
Any donation DAV receives will not go unappreciated or unused by veterans affected by natural disasters. Thank you all for your assistance in getting the word out. As always, I am humbled by your service and dedication to our nation’s veterans, and I am proud to stand with you as we stand up for those who served.
