Every single U.S. Military Veteran, no matter their age, race, gender, political stance or preference takes an oath. An oath to defend the people of the United States against all enemies both foreign and domestic. That includes you and me, our children, our parents, our friends and neighbors. The United States Veteran did not discriminate on who they defended.
Tonight alone, there will be over 50,000 U.S. Military Veterans who do not have a warm bed to sleep in or a table to eat dinner at. These Veterans struggle to survive the brutal winter seasons, and some unfortunately succumb to the elements. How ironic for a Veteran who put his life on the line to defend our Country dies on the streets of his Country because he can't find adequate housing or shelter.
The transition from Military to Civilian life after discharge can be tough. Most Veterans are overwhelmed with a sense of grief or guilt. We have been taught to protect our battle buddies, watch each other’s six (what your back), a great sense of camaraderie is built, it’s a must. And many times that is lost after discharge accompanied with an overwhelming "what now" moment.
This #GivingTuesday (11/28/17) Operation HomeFront Heroes will be supporting our homeless U.S. Military Veterans by providing the gift of survival - Backpacks for Heroes. Hundreds of backpacks will be filled with new boots, clothing, jackets, snacks/food, along with hotel vouchers with the hope they will be used on the coldest of nights. Backpacks will be distributed on December 9, 2017 along with a large Thanksgiving style dinner that will be served and great camaraderie will be felt once again. After our Veterans have finished dinner they will be invited to a complimentary night in a hotel providing the opportunity to take a nice hot shower and sleep in a comfortable bed.
This #GivingTuesday (November 28, 2017) as you finish up your leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner. Please consider donating to Backpacks for Heroes and keep our U.S. Military Veterans in mind. Who knows where we would be without their service.
Thank you for becoming a hero to our heroes. Donations can be made at http://veteransresortusa.com/giving-tuesday/
